Midfielders/Centrocampistas: Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, Santi Cazorla, Andrés Iniesta, Bruno Soriano, Borja Valero
Forwards/Delanteros: David Villa, David Silva, Fernando Llorente, Fernando Torres, Pedro, Manu del Moral, Álvaro Negredo
Highlights from del Bosque’s press conference:
Xavi Hernández and Carles Puyol are not on the list…
We have called up those who we honestly believed appropriate. In regards to Xavi and Puyol, they are working extremely hard ahead fo the Champions League final. Puyol is suffering a lot with his injury… I have personally spoken with Xavi, who said he had a very long and grueling season, so we decided not to call him up.
Will Sergio Busquets go to the U-21 European Cup?
We all know Sergio’s history, his goodwill. But we have opted to have him play on our team: he has played with us in the Confederations Cup, the World Cup… we think it makes more sense to have him play with us, because of his history with the team.
What can Manu del Moral bring to the team?
Mainly, his versatility, he’s in great physical shape and he can play on either of the wings and as a forward. He’s fast and he can bring us freshness and quality. We were short on people who can play on either of the wings, because of the injuries of both Pablo Hernandez and Jesús Navas and not having Juan Mata**… In addition, Manu has been working hard and playing well in recent years.
You have included Fernando Torres…
He is a steady player within this group. We are at the end of the season and we didn’t want to create any controversy or open any debates. We also wanted most of the players that were in the World Cup. As to what will happen next season, only God knows.
Javi Martínez (♥) is not on the list. What do your thoughts on him?
He was a starter in the last game we played against Lithuania. He has had an excellent season in terms of quantity and quality of matches.
*I am SO excited to see our boys together again! / Estoy BURDA de emocionada de ver a nuestros muchachos juntos otra vez!
**Probably due to the fact that Mata is almost a shoe-in for the U-21 European Cup / Probablemente debido al hecho que Mata esta casi garantizado a jugar en el Europeo Sub-21
