Somos un equipo unido…

“We are united and committed as a team” – Fernando Torres

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the Spanish national team, specifically the Barça and Real Madrid players following the four Clásicos. Our boys have shown that they are the humble professionals we all got to know during the World Cup.  Here are a few highlights from my favorite articles from the past week…

For starters. ‘Captains without the armband’ – Marca, June 4, 2011:

They have never worn the captain’s armband and probably never will. However, their role in the locker room has been irreplaceable. Reina and Capdevilla are two players that have helped make Spain more than just a group of the best players of the country, but instead, has made them a united group. The two of them are now here to help remedy any bad taste left by the Clásicos.

Reina has been a central figure in helping change the situation around players that were out of sync. Reina’s charisma was key in the European Cup. Capdevilla’s role is less well-known, but those around him know how important he is within the team. “He’s a phenomenon,” says Del Bosque. With his ever-present mile, Capdevilla has never hidden the fact that he feels privileged to be part of the Spanish team. He jokes around with everyone, the players, the doctors, and anyone he runs into.

“We have proven that this group is united.  I’m happy, because when you play for the national team, you have to give it your all.  Playing for Spain is a privilege.” – Santi Cazorla

Oh, and also. Using the hashtag #noolvidéis (don’t ever forget) on Twitter, Marca has compiled the top 21 reasons for La Roja to stay united.
